Again a little bit late....

I really like the intro sequence of the city of Paris. Man, it looks truly 2.5 D. It's the first time it doesn't look like normal sprites or like standard 3D graphics. The first couple of animated seconds kinda disappointing me, but....mwheea. Just watch it.

I have to say, I was a huge Michael Turner (MT) fan (when younger). And sometimes am still charmed by his designs. So you can imagine I was...well, happy at least, to hear WB is making a Bruce Timm (Batman: the animated series) animated adaptation of MT's work.

Well, I still think the designs used in this animation look nice, but they don't really seem to have anything to do with MT's work. It looks like Bruce and his friends just used the usual WB/DC style: The very stylized batman feel.

I'm still interested in the movie, don't get me wrong. But I just feel they could have done a little bit more with the feel and look of the movie. They could have incorporated a little bit more of MT's lines...

Trying to do some character design. First of all, make some sillhouettes. And then, fill in the colors...I guess would be the strategy.

I think the last version of my Nepali Temple. (See Background in post below). It's time I come up with a new setdesign. So That's what I'll be trying later on. Hope you all like it.

Just look at the animation, I used to watch these when I was young. And, I still think they are great. The stories are compelling (especially the crowparty saga) and the animation is outstanding....Well my opinion anyway.

Calvin's assignment was to create an ancient and vengeful forest deity. I created the forest walker. It is slow and cumbersome, but it's flexible neck allows its free floating head to scan large areas of forest while it's tentacles will smite all heretical elements within their vast reach.

A very quick speedy of an Omega Creature. I tried to give it a real concept feel by drawing it in a very short time (10 minutes). Hope you still like it though, Have to admit I wasn't really going for the smoothed out end result....more for a sort of feel.

Alrighty, this is a new piece of work in our speedpainting project. Calvin wanted me to color/paintover an old drawing of his. Well, this is the end result. It actually took me maybe half an hour instead of a full hour, but I thought it was done. I think this image looks better with a bit of a rough sketchy feel to it.

On a sidenote, I think this is like my first blog post.... ever! I'm old!

My latest speedy is this moon of Saturn. It was supposed to be Titan...but well, the yellow color just didn't work for me...Would be a cool thing to do these pictures again in a year or so: just to see if there has been any improvement.

This is my first speedy. I've never drawn Lizzy before, and I tried a different method for a change. AND...0ne hour is not a long time! So instead of actually rendering the character I spend too much time designing the spacesuit. And...I resorted to cheap tricks: coloring background and thick outer lines... hehe.

Yes, another update today. I'm rather productive, haha. This time I made a Nepalese temple. I didn't really use reference for this one, so don't look to closely. I probably made numerous cultural mistakes.

Have to say, I think her proportions aren't great. Her head and upperbody seem to big for the rest....maybe I'll fix that.

Against better judgment in (:p)I participated at this years 24 Hour Comic Day. The idea is to make a comic of 24 pages within 24 hours, all pages must contain several pictures and you are not allowed to use a existing story or characters.

Here's my entry. I failed to have 24 page, and did 16 instead. My drawing are a little bit less then normally but I hope you still enjoy seeing it.

I did the last page at hour number 24. So her proportions aren't terrific.

INKA concept 4

This concept started out as an mountain in the Andes. I wanted to make a small 'Inca era' farm. With all the small terraces on the mountain side.

Halfway through the concept my imagination took over...and well, I put a little windmill on top of the mountain. I'm not sure if the inca's actually had windmills, don't think so. But it looks kinda romantic.

Restaurant Sketch 1

Today I was thinking about asian restaurants. And most of them look the same, it's always the red with black. As if we expect them to be like that. That's why I designed, or just sketched, a quick concept of a 'buffet-style' restaurant like a South Eastern Market. It's again just a practice run.

I can make backgrounds-sketches very easy. Most of the time you can actually see what I'm trying to convey, but tidying it up...now there is the tricky part. I don't know exactly how to make my setdesigns stand out. But I'll learn.

In this design I thought of my journeys to Japan and Cambodia. The night markets just looked great. So this is definitely an idea I should pursue a bit further.

A series I and my brother used to watch when we where small kids. Good times, good times. But even now the animation...at least of the intro....is pretty good. The tempo of the animations has changed a bit over the years: nowadays the story is told so much faster.

I'm sorry for the poor quality....but anyway have fun!

A different piece on the INKA story. I wanted to have a easy to draw poncho. My mother asked me to make the poncho dark red, or with dark red accents. I never thought it was this difficult to get the color scheme in balance. And...no I did not succeed. At least not in the enclosed picture.

At the moment I'm also working on a different project. And am very pleased with the results. But...am somewhat reluctant to show any progress/concept until I actually finished it....

My first concept of a character in a story I'm working on. I had a full color version first. But had some difficulty correcting the color scheme. The ponchos are so very brightly colored.

For this story I still have to design an alpaca, witch and spirit.....

I saw a trailer for the second season of Clone Wars, and loved the fact they use new charactermodels. Because there was a difference between the older and the newer models.

I just thought of making a concept of the planet of Ahsoka Tano.
